Sodium silicate in detergent industry
2022/01/31It is used as a buffer solution to separate fat particles and keep them suspended, to prevent corrosion and in general. For several centuries, both liquid silicates and metasilicates have been used as building blocks in soaps. Liquid silicates are added to molded and cosmetic soaps to prevent acidification. In a variety of commercial laundries and self-services, metasilicates are known as soap makers. In synthetic detergents, phosphates and other materials are used to corrode aluminum, zinc, and certain alloys used in the structure of household dishwashers. The participation of sodium silicate in the composition of detergents helps control corrosion and alkaline attack and emulsification of organic fats and oils and reduces the hardness of calcium and magnesium.
